Freddy Baeza comes from immigrant parents from Chihuahua, Mexico. Being the first in his family to attend college he uses stories form his immigrant family and heritage to be told through his sculptures and installations. Showing the resilience and determination to strive for a betterment of his future the same way his parents worked so hard for theirs. While attending The University of Kansas where he received his MFA Freddy received The Visual Arts Research Grant to fund his thesis “Un Gran Esfuerzo Para Sobrevivir”. He also received a travel grant for his residency to Sanbao Ceramics Institute in Jingdezhen, China. He is currently an adjunct at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma teaching sculpture 1, advanced expanded media, public art, and print I/II, ceramics handbuilding and pottery on the wheel.
